📍Presented by Founder & Chairwoman Makaila Davis, Angels Protection Inc. 🎓 Guest: Dr. Justin T. Guy, DSW, LCSW-BACS, CCM Welcome to Episode 12 of Breaking the Silence, a podcast series by Angels Protection Inc. dedicated to amplifying voices that challenge inequity, advance healing, and protect the dignity of those most often overlooked within academic and professional systems. This episode is part of our Men Leading in Academia Series, where we spotlight men whose leadership in higher education, research, and practice is reshaping how institutions approach mental health, belonging, and equity. This conversation is about more than academia. It’s about leadership. It’s about mental health. It’s about belonging. And it’s about what it truly means to lead with humanity. For too long, academic and professional spaces have prioritized productivity over people—often leaving men, particularly Black men, navigating silence around mental health, identity, and trauma. Today’s guest speaks directly to that reality. 🎙️ Guest Spotlight: Justin T. Guy, DSW, LCSW-BACS, CCM Dr. Justin T. Guy is a scholar-practitioner, educator, and mental health leader with over 13 years of experience in mental and behavioral health. He is the Founder and Owner of Redeeming Solutions, LLC, an organization committed to supporting individuals and institutions through uncomfortable—but necessary—transformation. Dr. Guy earned his Doctor of Social Work from Tulane University, where his research focused on depression in African American men, belonging, health equity, social determinants of health, and adverse childhood experiences. He also holds a Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southern University and A&M College. In addition to his scholarship, Dr. Guy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor, Certified Case Manager, Sports Social Worker, ACE Educator, and former Doctoral Teaching Fellow at Tulane University. He is also the founder of the National Association of Black Social Workers student chapter at Tulane and a recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom and Justice Award. What sets Dr. Guy apart is his commitment to integrating scholarship, leadership, faith, and lived experience—creating academic and professional environments that are not only rigorous, but psychologically safe and deeply human. 🎧 Topics Covered: • Men’s mental health in academia • Leadership, belonging, and psychological safety • Trauma-informed teaching and systems change • Equity-centered scholarship and mentorship • Faith, identity, and healing in leadership • What transformative leadership in academia requires Together, let’s continue breaking the silence. 🔗 Learn more: www.angelsprotection.org 📲 Follow us on Instagram: @angelsprotectioninc 📘 Follow us on Facebook: Angels Protection Inc 📩 For interviews, partnerships, or press: info@angelsprotection.org #BreakingTheSilence #MenLeadingInAcademia #MentalHealthInAcademia #HealthEquity #TraumaInformedLeadership #BlackMenInAcademia #PsychologicalSafety #HigherEducation #AngelsProtectionInc #PodcastSeries
