We are reviewing the new Lew's KVD (Kevin Van Dam) LFS Speed Spool that was released a few months ago in 2020. I have used older versions of these Lew's baitcast reels ( speed spools) in this price point and they have been a workhorse for me over the years. The new one should perform even better. The Lew's KVD LFS is the newest addition to their mid priced baitcaster. I have used the MB Tournament Speed Spool for a long time now and absolutely love it. The MP Tournament Speed Spool replaced the MB easily in 2020 and it has been an excellent reel too. Both reels have caught me tons of fish. The major difference between the Tournament MP LFS and the KVD LFS is the styling. The KVD model is a dark rich red one piece aluminum body, while the MP Speed Spool is a charcoal grey due to the carbon fiber side plates. The KVD LFS weighs 7.2 ounces is $139 while the MP LFS is $149 and weighs in at 6.9 ounces. Both reels have a 20lbs carbon fiber drag system. Both models can spool 120 yards of 12 pound test line. The Lew's KVD LFS Speed Spool also has the multi setting brake system (MSB). This lets you really fine tune your braking system. It's nice to be able to set the internal brakes by slipping off the side plate, but still have the ability to make smaller minor adjustments with the external braking dial. Additionally, both the reel uses a 10 bearing system and brass guys. This reel is extremely smooth to cast and reel. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_...
