Vajrasattva (Sanskrit: वज्रसत्त्व, Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ། Dorje Sempa, short-form is རྡོར་སེམས། Dorsem, Монгол: Доржсэмбэ) is a bodhisattva in the Mahayana, Mantrayana/Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. Vajrasattva means "diamond being" or "vajra-being". Its character is as strong as a vajra. By practising his Dharma, the follower can avoid all evil thoughts, eliminate vexations and have unlimited happiness and wisdom. More info below... He is usually represented seated on a lotus posture. He wears a crown in which there is often an image of Akshobhya and the dress and ornaments of Dhyani-Buddhisattva. Against his breast, he generally holds a vajra in his right hand; but the vajra may be balanced on its point in the palm of his hand. With the left, he holds the ghanta on his hip. If standing, he balances the vajra in his right hand against his breast, while in the left, hanging pendent, he presses the ghanta against the leg. Unlike the other Dhyan-Buddhas, he is always crowned with or without his Shakti whom he presses against his breast in the yab-yum attitude, with the right hand holding vajra, while the left holds the ghanta on his hip. Vajrasattva (Do-rje sems-dpa’) practice is a tantric meditation done for the purification of karma. As a Mahayana practice, it is undertaken with a bodhichitta aim to purify all our karma in order to reach enlightenment as quickly as possible in order to be best able to help all limited beings (sentient beings). The meaning of the hundred syllable mantra of vajrasattva is a prayer which invokes the mindstreams of the Buddhas. ॐ oṃ The syllable of the most supreme exclamation of praise. va jra-sa ttva-sa ma ya Vajrasattva’s Samaya ma nu pā la ya va jra-sa ttva O Vajrasattva, protect the samaya. tve na u pa ti ṣṭha dṛ ḍho me bha va May you remain firm in me. su to ṣyo me bha va Grant me complete satisfaction. su po ṣyo me bha va Grow within me (increase the positive within me). a nu rak to me bha va Be loving towards me. sar va-si ddhiṃ me pra ya ccha Grant me all the accomplishments, sar va kar ma su ca me As well as all the activities. cittim śre yaḥ ku ru Make my mind virtuous. hūṃ Syllable of the heart essence, the seed syllable of Vajrasattva. ha ha ha ha Syllables of the four immeasurables, the four empowerments, the four joys, and the four kāyas. hoḥ Syllable of joyous laughter in them. bha ga van sar va-ta thā ga ta Bhagawan, who embodies all the Vajra Tathāgatas, va jra mā me mu ñca Do not abandon me. va jri bha va Grant me realization of the vajra nature. ma hā sa ma ya sa ttva āḥ.
