Waterfront Gateway Affordable Housing Community Groundbreaking

On Aug. 27, 2025, City and tribal leaders, the Cowlitz tribe, Colas Development Group (CDG), and the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) ceremoniously broke ground on a new affordable housing community at 615 W. 6th Street. This six-story, 95-unit building represents CDG and NAYA’s first housing development in Washington. CDG and NAYA, with support from the Cowlitz Tribe, will deliver a community that is rooted in Native culture and will attract Native American families and individuals earning between 50% and 60% of the area’s median income. Through our Affordable Housing Fund, fee reductions, a state tax exemption, and selling the land for $1, we’re proud to help make this vision possible and ensure long-term affordability. This is the first project in our Waterfront Gateway District, which will connect the waterfront to downtown with new housing, small business spaces and public gathering areas.
