"Xe Lam" is the Vietnamese name for a 3-wheeled vehicle, once a popular means of public transport in Vietnam, especially in South Vietnam since the 1960s, for ordinary workers. The name "Xe Lam" appeared from that time, due to the use of the Lambro model made in Italy by the Lambretta line. Later, the car was made by people with imported engines or used other motorbike engines. "Xe Lam" is a small van with 3 wheels, including a cabin for the driver to sit in front and a trunk to carry passengers or cargo behind, which can carry from 8 to 10 passengers. Divided into 3 wheels, one wheel is placed in front, the driver can control to turn left or right, while the two rear wheels bear the body of the car. Under the driver's seat is the engine compartment. The name "Xe Lam" is derived from the three-wheeler models of Lambretta FD (cylinder capacity 123 and 150 cc), FLI (175 cc) and later Lambro 200, 550 (both 198 cc capacity) due to mechanical company Innocenti manufactures. These vehicles were in turn imported into the Republic of Vietnam in the mid-1960s to replace the terracotta vehicles that were still in circulation at that time. These vehicles are imported in unpacked form, and depending on the capacity of transporting people or goods, they will be packed after being imported into the country. Besides, some cars with similar designs but of other brands ( like Vespa of Piaggio , Italy , ... ), less commonly , are also called auto rickshaws.
