On March 27, 1985, a tragic accident claimed the lives of 42 children when a double-decker bus crashed into the Westdene Dam. Driven by 41-year-old Willem Horne, the bus, carrying 72 occupants, lost control and plummeted through the barriers. Despite attempts to rescue those inside, 42 young lives were lost, drowning in the cold, murky waters of the dam.
