American Samoa - Block 5 of 6 BONUS BLOCKS for the Celebrating the States Block of the Month!

This block will represent American Samoa in our quilt! This block needs five fabrics: a light (white), two mediums (reds), and two darks (blues). Watch the video to see how we made it! This is a bonus block to get our total blocks to 56 blocks for a rectangular quilt with each of the blocks being pieced. For this month's block, you'll need five fabrics: 4 light squares, 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" 16 light squares, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" From each of the (four) medium and dark fabrics: 1 square, 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" (4 total) 4 squares, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" (16 total) Watch the video for all the cutting and piecing instructions. I hadn't known much about them. American Samoa is located in the region of the world near Fiji , Australia and New Zealand: all places I'd also love to visit some day! Pictures I've seen of the views and stunning landscapes are amazing. I'd love to learn more about the history, the local culture and traditions, and visit their National Park. It's the only U.S. National Park located south of the equator! It protects the beaches, coral reefs, and rainforests across three islands. I'm sure it is amazing to explore! All of the "Celebrating the States" blocks will be rotary cut. These blocks will be presented in video form only and will come out the last week of the month on our YouTube channel. We are loving all the blocks you've posted so far! Here's a link to the group:   / 348191223475240   This quilt will be 56 blocks set with 1" sashing, 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down. It will measure 92" x 105". If borders are wanted, a 3" border will make the quilt 98" x 111". If you add a 6" border, it will measure 104" x 117". If no border is wanted, just sew the blocks together for a quilt that will measure 84" x 96". I am starting this quilt now because it has been a goal of mine (since the Bi-centennial when I was a young girl) to make a quilt for this very special, once in a lifetime celebration! #celebratethestates #rotarycutter If you don't want a quilt that is as large as listed, split the blocks for the 50 states into half and put 25 states on the front and 25 states on the back and make it a two-sided quilt. If you use a 1" sashing, 5 blocks across and 5 blocks down and add a 3" border , it would be about 72" x 72". The Quilted Forest is located at 205 North Clark in Forest City, IA.
