Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) is one of the most famous landmarks in the Czech Republic and a must-see place in Prague. It sits on a hill above the Vltava River and dominates the city skyline. 📜 Quick facts • Founded around the 9th century. • It is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. • Recognized as the largest ancient castle complex in the world (about 70,000 m²). • For centuries it was the seat of Bohemian kings and Holy Roman emperors. ⭐ Main things to see inside • St. Vitus Cathedral – the huge Gothic cathedral and symbol of Prague • Old Royal Palace – medieval palace where kings ruled • St. George’s Basilica – one of the oldest churches in Prague • Golden Lane – colorful historic street with tiny houses ⏰ Opening hours • Castle grounds: 6:00 – 22:00 daily • Historic buildings: • 9:00 – 17:00 (Apr–Oct) • 9:00 – 16:00 (Nov–Mar) 💰 Tickets • Grounds (courtyards) → Free • Main historical buildings → about 450 CZK (~€18) standard ticket. 🎖️ Special thing to watch The Changing of the Guard happens every hour, with a ceremonial version at 12:00 noon. 🚋 How to get there • Tram 22 or 23 → “Pražský hrad” stop (short walk). • Or walk up from Charles Bridge (about 20–30 minutes). The narrowest street in Prague is called Čertovka Street. Čertovka Street What makes it special • Width: about 50 cm (20 inches) at its narrowest point. • It’s so tight that only one person can pass at a time. • Because of that, it has pedestrian traffic lights 🚦. Where it is • Located in the Malá Strana (Lesser Town) area near Charles Bridge. • It connects U Lužického semináře street to a small canal called Čertovka. Why it exists The passage was originally a fire escape path between buildings, not meant to be a regular street. Today it’s a quirky tourist attraction. At the end of the street At the bottom of the passage you’ll find a small restaurant: • Vinarna Certovka Many visitors walk through the tiny alley and then stop there for a drink by the canal. 💡 Tip: Go early morning or late evening if you want a photo — during the day people line up to pass through. Little Venice” of Prague Prague’s Little Venice is the romantic canal area along the Čertovka Canal in the Malá Strana district. Čertovka Canal Prague Why it’s called Little Venice The Čertovka Canal runs between historic buildings and a small island, creating narrow waterways that resemble Venice’s canals. Because of this picturesque setting, locals and tourists often call the area “Prague’s Little Venice.” Highlights in the area • 🏠 Colorful houses built right along the water • ⚙️ The historic water mill wheel on the canal • 🌉 Small stone bridges and narrow paths • 🚤 Boat tours that go through the canal Famous spot there One of the most photographed places is the old mill: Grand Priory Mill Wheel This large wooden wheel sits right in the canal and looks especially beautiful at sunset. Boat tours Many small sightseeing boats depart near: Charles Bridge These tours often pass through the canal so you can see Little Venice from the water, which is the best view. Best photo spot 📸 Stand on the small bridge near the mill wheel and look down the canal toward the Vltava River — it’s one of the most picturesque scenes in Prague.
