The Cosumnes Fire Department‘s 24-week fire academy is located at our state-of-the-art Fire Training Center. Fire Recruits will be challenged physically, mentally and academically, through rigorous training in firefighting techniques, rescue operations, hazardous materials, emergency medical training and much more. Upon successful completion of the Fire Academy, the Recruits meet the current state firefighter standard and become probationary firefighters. Each probationary firefighter is assigned to a 48/96 shift schedule and will work under the direct supervision of a Fire Station Captain and the evaluated training will continue for one year.
