Tet, Vietnam’s most important holiday, falls on February 17 this year. The celebration marks the arrival of spring on the lunar calendar and it is a time for family reunions, honoring ancestors and welcoming good fortune. In the days leading up to the holiday, residents and visitors streamed through the century-old Hang Luoc traditional Tet market. Decorations prominently feature horses, the zodiac animal associated with the coming year. Shoppers examined gold-embossed calligraphy, red envelopes for lucky money and paper cutouts shaped like galloping horses, symbols of strength and perseverance.
