Dr. Noé Romo, Medical Director for the “Stand Up to Violence” program, began his story by describing the emotional task of telling a mother their child has died from gun violence. He remembers seeing that same pain on his aunt’s faces when her 18-year-old son died of a gunshot wound in East Los Angeles. The trauma of gun violence is affecting families across the country, and when Romo is looking for answers to the senseless violences, he leans on the lessons he learned working the fields with his grandfather in a small, rural Mexican village: Storytelling has long been a staple in President Bill Clinton’s legacy of public service. And Monday night at Urban Zen at Stephen Weiss Studios, his storytelling legacy continued through the Clinton Global Initiative’s (CGI) Story Studio, an informal and relaxed space where trailblazers and innovators share stories from the frontlines of our biggest common challenges.
