"Lars & Tina's Pretty Dope Day" (2020) - [Stoner Comedy] OFFICIAL Short Film

An inept 1990's grunge couple, Lars and Tina, are constantly arguing one day, when they notice they ran out of rolling papers and can't smoke their weed! So they embark on a crazy journey across Chicago to try to recoup their losses and get high. They are no Bill & Ted, and this is no excellent adventure, but it sure is a pretty dope day anyhow! Inspired by mumblecore, the films of Kevin Smith, Richard Linklater and Jim Jarmusch as well as the screwball style of 90's television hits like "Pete & Pete", this is my love letter to slacker comedies. I chose to do it all mostly handheld, without studio lighting (mostly only available light), and I even forgot to mic certain scenes. I used a Lumix 20mm f1.7 and a vintage PENTAX-K zoom lens mounted to Micro 4/3 which has a real nice filmic look as is very crisp for an older manual lens. This was shot between November of 2019 and January of 2020 with no money, using really only whatever we had available. It was also unscripted, with all the dialogue being improvised take after take, and inevitably I had to make it flow together in editing which posed a fun challenge.
