Today you’ll learn why small words are the key to T/F/NG answers. Visit ielts.allearsenglish.com for the simplest and most effective IELTS strategies. As an IELTS student, you’ve probably experienced frustration at T/F/NG and Y/N/NG questions. They are some of the toughest on the Reading Exam! In this video, you’ll learn one crucial tip to getting these answers correct on your next IELTS test. Small words referring to time, such as frequency (always, never), amount (most, some), and probability (may, probably) are often skipped over. However, these small words are so often the key to getting the answer! They contain very definite meaning, these words, and are many times the information that agrees (T/Y) or disagrees (F/N) with the passage. On the other hand, if you are looking at the passage and cannot see information that agrees or disagrees with this small word, then the answer is NG! For example: The statements says, “Diseases are often grouped…” And the passage says, “Illnesses are usually grouped…” Often and usually are very close in meaning, so the statement and the passage agree. However, if the statement says, “Agoraphobia is always based on…” And the passage says, “Agoraphobia may be based on…” Then, the answer is False or No, because always and may disagree with each other. The next time you’re doing IELTS Reading practice, look for these types of small words, and test out the theory. It works!
