As Orion began its closest approach to the moon yet, NASA shared live views of the moon and Earth as seen from the Artemis I spacecraft. #Artemis #Orion #NASA #ArtemisMission Click here for more on the Artemis I mission and Orion's incredible selfies: https://www.foxweather.com/earth-spac... On Nov. 16, the Artemis I mission was successfully launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. On its way to the moon, the Orion spacecraft has been sharing incredible images from its 240,000-mile journey. Images of the Earth and moon were captured on day 5 of the flight by “selfie stick” cameras mounted to Orion’s solar array wings. A portion of the far side of the moon looms large just beyond the Orion spacecraft in photos from flight day 6. On Monday, Orion made its closest approach to the moon, flying only 81 miles above the lunar surface. The last time a human-rated spacecraft was this close to the moon was during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. If all goes well, Orion will fly more than 40,000 miles past the moon before beginning its journey back to Earth. The final Artemis 1 mission milestone will happen on Dec. 11 when the spacecraft lands in the Pacific Ocean.
