The film follows Dr Alexander MacGillivray in his investigation surrounding the authenticity of three "artefacts" used extensively by archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans in his (re)creation of the Minoan civilization, considered to be "the fountainhead of modern Western culture". Tracing the fascinating stories surrounding a mysterious gold & ivory statuette of a Snake Goddess, the golden «Ring of King Minos»  and the reconstructed «tomb of the King of Knossos», the film is an archaeological detective-story as well as an inquiry into the human need for both fact and fiction. A need that lies behind the popularity of conspiracy theories and the "Da Vinci Code".
