A walk through of what ended up being pretty close to a full front end rebuild on my '73 VW Superbeetle. This video was filmed over the course of 7 months - the amount of time it took me to put everything back together and get it running again between waiting for parts, time to work on it, holiday visits, and working around a few months travelling for work. Some tips, part links, and info below! Looking back I wish I had just taken a week to knock it all out at the same time once I knew I had all the parts. I've always been scared of messing with suspension but learned all about it with this project, and putting it all back in place was for once easier than the removal. Brakes: Finding brake pads for the aftermarket empi disc brake upgrade was tough. I could have ordered from Jbugs or Amazon to get what I thought would work: https://www.jbugs.com/product/22-2890... ....or what I thought might work from Amazon: https://amzn.to/4gVkIfV ....But I wanted them day-of or next day, and to be able to look at them and compare the old pads to verify fitment. I ended up ordering from O'Reilley and got a set of D21 from BrakeBest: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/... .....to find them I looked for ghia and fastback brakes, then took a guess on which ones would fit, since a few of them looked similar. These worked and will be what I buy in the future. They were next day delivery to the store so I ordered them one night and picked them up on the way home from work the next day. I have a video showing some of the restoration done on the metal pieces I wire-wheeled and painted linked here, it's not a perfect process but I think it will definitely help it last a little longer: • Wire Wheels and Rattle Cans - $25 Back Yar... The struts I had to get were from empi through Jbugs, and they don't seem to be anything easy to find elsewhere: https://www.jbugs.com/product/9629.html ...but they are on amazon: https://amzn.to/40Agi8q If you're going to pack your steering box, make sure to pay attention to getting the correct paper gasket. It was also hard to find but I found it on CIP1.com. I ordered the wrong one at first. The tie rod I bought that didn't fit is linked here: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.... The rest of the stuff I got from RockAuto (bearings, rotors, seals, upper ball joint) all worked great.
