In September 1683, Vienna stood on the brink of destruction. Surrounded by 150,000 Ottoman troops under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa, the city faced starvation, mines beneath its walls, and relentless assaults. With Emperor Leopold I fled, only Count Ernst Rüdiger von Starhemberg and a starving garrison stood in defiance. But salvation came from the hills. A coalition of German states, Austrians, and, most famously, King Jan III Sobieski of Poland with his legendary winged hussars, turned the tide. On September 12th, Sobieski launched the largest cavalry charge in history, shattering the Ottoman lines and saving Vienna—and with it, the heart of Europe. This documentary dives deep into the Siege of Vienna: the ambitions of empires, the desperation inside the city, and the legendary charge that became a turning point in world history. If Vienna had fallen, the map of Europe might look very different today. #Vienna1683 #BattleOfVienna #SiegeOfVienna #ottomanempire #PolishHussars #JanSobieski #europeanhistory #militaryhistory #historydocumentary #TheSiegeThatSavedEurope
