U.S. SANCTIONS FOUR GUYANESE, TWO COLOMBIANS FOR MASSIVE COCAINE TRAFFICKING OPERATION

In a move targeting the international drug trade, the United States has imposed sanctions on four Guyanese nationals and two Colombians—accusing them of trafficking tons of cocaine from South America to destinations across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. The announcement came Thursday from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control—OFAC—naming the individuals as key players in an elaborate narco-trafficking network involving boats, submarines, and even clandestine airstrips. Among those sanctioned is a senior Guyanese police officer. Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali said intelligence has been requested to aid the local probe.
