CataractCoach 1401: nucleus division with weak zonules
Our guest surgeon shows two techniques that can be useful in cases where the zonular support is weak. There is no need to perform hydro-dissection or nucleus rotation. These techniques are using a pre-chopper to divide the nucleus into thin strips and then the V groove to trisect a nucleus. Both of these techniques have been described before. There was the Kansas Nucleus Trisector to divide a nucleus into smaller strips and the Kelman Victory V groove to divide a nucleus -- and both of these were described more than 25 years ago. Even so, the techniques shown here by Dr Masahiko Kimura from Japan are excellent options for these tricky cases where the zonular support is weak.
