The one sample z test is a parametric procedure that tests whether a single sample mean is significantly different than a population mean when the standard deviation of the population (σ) is KNOWN. We will learn the research design for the IV and DV, the assumptions for the test, how to set the null and alternative hypotheses, and how to establish the alpha level and critical value. This will prepare you to do the test by hand and write up the findings. This video uses Stats Blocks to illustrate the statistical concepts of hypothesis testing. Stats Blocks were designed by Dr. Todd Daniel to explain abstract statistical concepts using concrete illustrations and inductive reasoning. This example uses social networking users’ age from the dataset: SocialMediaAges.txt Chapters 0:00 What is a one-sample z test?
