Did you know Singapore had a Japanese-style garden long before the one in Jurong? 🌸🏞️ Hidden in history is Alkaff Lake Gardens, once one of Singapore’s most popular leisure spots in the early 20th century. Opened to the public in 1929 by the influential Alkaff family, this 100-acre garden featured an artificial lake, rowing boats, picnic grounds, and landscaped paths inspired by Japanese garden design. Later, Chinese elements were added, turning it into a multicultural retreat enjoyed by both locals and visitors. The garden survived wartime turmoil but fell into ruin after World War II. Sold in 1949, the land was redeveloped, and the original gardens disappeared. Yet its legacy lives on today — revived in name and spirit at Alkaff Lake in Bidadari, just steps from Woodleigh. 📍 Discover Alkaff Lake Gardens — Singapore’s forgotten Japanese garden. 🔔 Like, comment & subscribe for more stories about Singapore’s hidden past 🇸🇬📜 Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pde1oBiNWyoqZ...
