I have no insurance. I feel like I have no hope. I’m alone. What do I do?” Dr. Demetre: You have some questions? We know HIV. Dr. David: I’m a doctor. I’m trained for this. Dr. Leandro: We’re gonna give you what you need. Dr. David: This is a hard question because getting a diagnosis of HIV is very serious and for some people will make you feel very lonely and like you don’t have any support in the world. The important thing to note is that you’re not alone in this process and there are resources that you can use to get help even if you don’t have insurance. Greaterthan.org is a great resource where you can type in your zip code and find out the specific locations of where you can get access to treatment in your local areas. You don’t have to tell the world, but if you can, try to tell one person that’s close to you in your life. Try to reach out for help for one person, from one person alone. If that person can help you and get you navigated that’s all you’re going to need. But remember, just because you have an HIV diagnosis does not mean it’s a death sentence. You are not alone and there’s help for you.
