I've been doing power system studies for about the last 15 years, and it's truly one of my biggest passions in electrical engineering. Understanding how the whole electrical system comes together is one of the critical parts of power system studies. When we're doing the power system studies, the intention is to create an electrical model that simulates the complete electrical system, not only from the loads that are in the system, but also protected devices in the system, and the utility sources and generating sources. So with these components, we're able to do evaluations that can help us prevent issues from developing in the future, help us evaluate multiple different scenarios so we can see what happens when either mechanical process go out or sources fall out of availability, and so that we can prevent major interruptions to the mechanical processes that are being driven by that electrical system in the future. With these analyses, we can also look at the safety of the facility, safety of the personnel, and look at the holistic system to make sure that we're able to support that mechanical process well into the future.
