Relatively speaking, the Second World War wasn't that long ago and the threat of an invading army was a real risk and danger for the people of the UK. The British government had made plans to defend against an invasion force and created the GHQ line across the South of England and through Wales. Germany was planning to invade multiple locations in the South of England and push towards the capital and occupy the country. The British government created the LDV which would act as a home defensive force, and look out for parachute troops, invasion forces, and stationary weaponry should the invasion arrive. The LDV would soon become the Homeguard, and unlike the BBC comedy, Dad's Army portrayed, they were a formidable fighting force who were trained to kill and would have died to defend their home. After the war, evidence of the conflict remained for decades and other things were decommissioned and removed. Some of these structures still exist in 2022, and this includes defences from the invasion precautions and the GHQ line. Today's video shows a small stretch of the English coastline between West St Leonards and Bexhill in East Sussex, and there are a few remains of the Second World War littered along the beach, anti-tank cubes and the foundations of a pillbox. During the war, the defences would have been vast and would have included more anti-tank cubes, scaffolding, sea mines, oil set a light, anti-air guns, pillboxes and machine gun nests.
