Defending against Jacobs’ hammer, the Swedish team opted to muck things up and leave the door open for a late precision shot from skip Niklas Edin. The world number one team followed the plan to perfection and with the skip’s first of two shots pulled off an outrageous bump and run through a sea of stones to steal shot rock from Jacobs. “That was maybe one in 25 to make that shot. We were lucky to make it at the right time,” Edin said. “We missed a couple shots early in the end so we figured we need to mess things up, need to save our chances for the last two shots. “We couldn’t do anything too obvious, it would be too easy for them so we just tried to mess it up as much as we can and make them make a crazy call at some point.” The foursome considered going for the daring attempt earlier in the end when Eriksson was throwing the third stones, but opted to leave the opportunity for the sharpshooting skipper. “We had a chance to play it on my shot with the same weight, but we decided to save it for Niklas,” Eriksson said. “When he bumped off the high guard it was a good angle to get some separation to maybe get two outs on his last. “He’s always going to be close on it, but it’s a lot of luck too. He has to get the super thin kiss on the yellow guard to stick it on their shot.” Skip Brad Jacobs was forced into a difficult run back to draw for the win, but the shot skimmed one of the guards and went sideways sending the Swedes into jubilation.
