101 Beautiful Miles of Gravel Bike Adventure around Middlebury, Vermont

My brother and I had a Big Day Out, covering 163 km and almost 2200 meters of climbing, leaving from Lincoln, Vermont, and circling Middlebury. The scenery and weather were spectacular, and the roads and scenery diverse. Here's the route:   / strava   Our trusty British gravel bikes held up perfectly, with zero mechanicals or problems. I rode my first-generation Mason Bokeh with 11-speed 2x Ultegra Di2 (34-50 chainrings), bodged with an 11-40 XT cassette to make climbing the steep Vermont roads MUCH easier and more pleasant. My brother rode his new Fairlight Secan 2.5 with the new Shimano GRX 1x mechanical with a nice big 10-51 cassette and 40t chainring. Chains were waxed for long life and clean and quiet running with Silca hot wax and Super Secret drip wax. We both ran Specialized S-Works Pathfinder 42mm 700c tires on carbon rims.
