25/5/25 Didcot Railway Centre would host a series of days revolving around the visit of Flying Scotsman, the twist this time was that Pendennis Castle would join in on the advertising, under 'Rivals Reunited', reuniting Pemdennis Castle and Flying Scotsman in steam fir the first time since the 1980s when the pair were last together in Australia. Before then, the two met in 1925, when the LNER and GWR got into a major rivalry about who had the more powerful engine, Pendennis Castle proving itself to be the most powerful by far, leaving the LNER in the dust. Anyways back to the event, aside from the lineup at the front of the shed, this was just your typical Flying Scotsman event, lots of crowds, difficult to get decent photos, to be fair, should've saw this coming. The itinerary for the day was that the lineup would occur on shed before Scotsman headed to the demonstration line and Pendennis would head for the coal shoot and turntable apparently, I didn't see this. Scotsman certainly was just casually floating up and down the demonstration track, was expecting it to open up at points but no such luck, seemed to have a lot of steam to spare for the majority of the time, on shed, it was blowing out its cylinder cocks for 5 minutes one by one. I was hoping for a double header of the two, but apparently there were no plans, which made it annoying when I saw two occasions of it happening after my visit. Trojan was running on the Branch line diring the whole event, whilst the GWR railcar was on the demonstration track before Scotsmans arrival. Apologies for being negative, I had just forgotten about Flying Scotsman popularity and fame, and just the overall lack of excitement at the event. I appreciate what Flying Scotsman is doing for the community, getting people interested, but at the end of the day, it's just an LNER A3, something I find hard to get excited in on its own.
