Craig Beals from Beals Science meets up with Quinn, a former student of his to experiment with electricity in the lab. Together they use a high voltage microwave transformer to make plasma by pulling an arc from the transformer to a nail causing a flaming line of plasma. Next they run the high voltage arc through silicon dioxide sand (quartz sand) to melt the sand - which makes a tube of glass. Similar structures called fulgerites occur in nature when lightning strikes sand. For those of you who like romantic comedies recall the movie "Sweet Home Alabama", this was the basis of the main character's art work - making fulgerites on the beach from lightning! ~Learn more at: http://www.bealsscience.com/single-po... --Find the book: "Stuff Matters" by Mark Miodownik here: http://amzn.to/2kv33hN ~Connect on Facebook: / craigbealsscience ~Instagram: http://www.http://instagram.com/beals... ~Twitter: / bealsscience WARNING: This video is only for entertainment purposes.
