Walter Isaacson has led several great American institutions including Time, CNN, and the Aspen Institute but he is best known a master biographer for his portraits of historic figures who have shaped our world in art, government and science. His most famous biographies include "Steve Jobs", a revealing account of the Apple co-founder’s life and vision; "Leonardo da Vinci", an in-depth exploration of the Renaissance polymath; "Einstein: His Life and Universe", which delves into the physicist’s groundbreaking theories and personal struggles; and "Benjamin Franklin: An American Life", which captures the multi-faceted life of one of America’s Founding Fathers. His book "The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race" highlights the revolutionary advancements in CRISPR gene-editing technology and its ethical implications. His latest work, "Elon Musk", provides an inside look into the life and ambitions of the controversial tech entrepreneur. His first solo biography in 1992 was Kissinger: a Biography Walter Isaacson has lived a wonderful life, growing up in New Orleans, attending Harvard and then Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. A journalism career followed with stops at the London Times, The Times Picayune, Time Magazine where he became editor, CNN where he was CEO and then leader of the Aspen institute finally returning home to New Orleans to teach at Tulane and continue to write. Isaacson’s biographies are more than the facts of a life, they are an examination of the why. He looks for motivations and the combinations of talents that make greatness or tragedy. This conversation is about the “Art of the Biography”. And there is no one better to talk about it than Walter. I have known him since he became Editor of Time Magazine in the nineties. We will hold our conversation about Elon Musk until a future date since that story changes every day.
