Every year, thousands of pupils write their Grade 12 exams, whether government or Independent Examination Board exams. For many of them, passing matric opens the door to a successful career, but for others it can feel like they’re stuck on the sidelines. Today we explore the lives of three matric pupils whom we first met five years ago. Mpho Manele fell pregnant in her matric year and at the time she felt she had let her parents down, while Antonio Aristides was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his matric year. Doctors doubted whether he would be able to sit his exams. Then there is Fortune Khoza, who bravely changed schools in his matric year in search of an excellent pass.
