Recently when I was at the store a young boy about 5 years old was talking to me from the grocery cart. He was so present and confident when he spoke to me. I could feel the light of him shining through his eyes. We had a great conversation. His mom was watching with a smile. He had just finished chatting with another woman. She was a teacher and I heard him say, “I love teachers”. We talked about school and homeschooling. He is in kindergarten. After I mentioned I home schooled my daughters. he said his mom wouldn’t be a good teacher for homeschooling. I told him that I thought she was a great teacher. After all, she has a confident son who is comfortable talking to adults. I also shared with him that by talking to others at the store, he reminds us to be present with each other as we shop. I know he brought me out of my shopping daze of just going through the store on auto pilot. Just being yourself and letting your light shine through in your words and interactions.
