I Went On A Shopping Spree | June Budget Check In | Aja Dang

Hey everyone. This is my May/June Budget check in video. If you're late to the party, I completed my fully funded emergency last month so now I'm... FREE. It feels weird, I'm still paranoid about not being paid on time and instead of dumping money into debt or an emergency fund, it's going to investing. So while I did go on a shopping spree this past month, I'm still very much following my budget. This video was filmed in May before the stories of Reformation and Mate The Label came out so I'd like to address that. I think we all make the assumptions that "ethical" and "sustainable" brands hold themselves up to a higher moral standard than other companies. Unfortunately, it's been revealed that Reformation has a racist corporate culture and Mate The Label has allegedly stolen designs from smaller artists. I chose to spend my money with these brands because I thought they were brands that had the same values I have. I'm very grateful for the women who have come out and shared their stories about both brands, but I am disappointed in myself that I didn't my own research before spending money on them. While I will still wear the items that I've previously purchased with them (bc honestly, shit is expensive and since I already spent the money, I'll wear them to the bone) I will not continue to support them as a brand. I will continue to monitor the legal status of Mate The Label and Samantha (@hemleva) but in my mind, Reformation is canceled. A racist corporate culture is not something that can easily be reversed (plus someone who works in textiles told me that they aren't actually sustainable at all).
