#painting #jewish #brooklyn Jump into the orthodox jewish art scene, with a tour hosted by myself -- Samuel Abelow, artist, art critic and... yeshiva bocher (student at a jewish religious school). I have conversations with a range of artists about their paintings and techniques. The chassidic jewish community of Crown Heights Brooklyn is known for its Sukkot festival experience, and this art fair -- put on by Leviim Art Gallery -- showcases the creativity of religious jewish culture. From the perspective of an art critic and someone interests in how the public understands art, this video really reveals how the subjective perspective of the viewer is a major factor. Although, I think there is an objective sense of quality to those who are very familiar with art, every community and collector has their own sense of taste and style preferences. That said, this is also a peak into the jewish religious world -- its people, style and ways of communicating. I am passionate about helping to develop jewish art, having grown up non-religious and being educated in the arts -- especially painting -- but also finding tremendous value in our traditions and the divine reality of Torah.
