In September of 1991, I was 9 years old standing on an airport ramp in a blue shirt with my Sun Valley Elementary classmates, staring up at two of the most legendary bombers of World War II: The B-17 Flying Fortress “Texas Raiders” and a B-24 Liberator. This footage captures a rare public tour event where these historic aircraft were open for walk-throughs. The B-17 and B-24 played a major role in the Allied victory during WWII, flying dangerous daylight bombing missions over Europe and the Pacific. Seeing them up close as a kid left a lasting impression. Looking back at this 1991 camcorder footage brings back the nostalgia, scale, and presence of these incredible machines.
