The food truck phenomenon has taken Nashville by storm. You see them in every neighborhood - everyday. Now as Fox 17 Entertainment Reporter Stacy McCloud shows us, a new truck has rolled into town, but instead of food you'll find fashion!"Our goal is to be the one stop shop for all of your accessories needs, things you can't find anywhere else" says Kyah Hillis. Nashville designers Kyah Hillis and Abigaill Franklin are taking notes from the gourmet food playbook and selling their accessory lines from the back of a flatbed truck called "The Trunk". It's creating a new experience for shoppers. It's fun, people are like I want to buy something so they are part of the experience" says Hillis. Kyah was looking for retail space for her women's accessory line "Sleeveless". Meanwhile Abby was searching for the same for her mens line - "State". They both sell in boutiques around the US, but the price of brick and mortar was holding them back from owning their own building, until Abby got an idea! "Abby was pounding pavement everyday and she looked and saw a food truck"While it beats the price of rent and the risk of a bad location, setting up shop isn't simple or inexpensive. But it's a way to shift gears and bring fashion to their clients backdoors. "We can go where the people are. We go where there are popular restaurants and it's great cause we don't compete with them cause we aren't a food truck" says Hillis. Fleets of fashion trucks roll around town in several major cities, but overall the concept of taking shopping to the shopper is relatively new."Miami still doesn't have a fashion truck and they have hundreds of food trucks" says Hillis. Each day is a new adventure for the girls. "It's trial and error" laughs Hillis. An adventure they hope other local designers will embrace. "It's like a mall when you have trucks going around together. It creates a place people can come to shop. Hopefully we are the first of many" says Hillis.
