The Glasgow Smashing of the Van One of the most significant stories to emerge from the release of records in the Irish Military Service Pensions Collection (MSPC) in recent years, is the daring rescue attempt by the IRA of Brigadier Frank Carty from a prison van outside Duke Street Prison, Glasgow, on 4 May 1921. The records include the files of thirty of the participants who were engaged in the unsuccessful rescue, which tragically resulted in the death of a police inspector and the wounding of his colleague. The historian Stephen Coyle, who in 2008 wrote a book about the episode called High Noon on High Street, will deliver a webinar to mark the centenary of the incident, which will draw heavily on the recently released records. Presented by The 1916 Rising Centenary Committee (Scotland) and the Glasgow St Patrick's Festival 2021.
