Time Stamps at bottom for each segment. I know this is long. Click to the area you wish to learn about, or watch the show in its entirety. This is a very in-depth look at the Yaesu FTDX 5000. In this video, I’ll show you most of the controls that will allow you to get the most out of it. I’ll touch on receiver settings transmit settings, parametric Equalizer settings, dual receive, AGC, DNR, and the very powerful VRF front end control. I’ll also show how you can set it up “outside the instructions” to transmit up to 4 KHz wide with one. I’ll also have some helpful information for anyone looking to purchase one of these transceivers used. It’s impossible to touch on every single thing this transceiver does without making a video five hours long. But I tried to cover most of the things that I use on the rig it and why it’s my favorite. Personally, I’ve kept this transceiver over an FTDX 101D and MP, When I really want to enjoy working a ham radio, this is the single radio I always go to. Thank you for watching. Please consider subscribing. It will help people to find the channel who have an interest in ham and shortwave radio. All the best to you wherever you may be. Larry de K7HN For the intro to the FTDX 5000 review, click: 16:23 To learn how to make a Yaesu FTDX 5000 transmit 4 KHz wide (Not covered in the instructions for the transceiver) click 17:17 For an “intro” about the Mu tuner and VRF, at the front end of the transceiver, click 20:39. For the way I’ve found to be effective to work tough signals, click 21:54 For AGC Settings, click 22:35 For Pre Amp information, click 24:34 For VRF, (Variable RF) control, how it works and how to use it, (Which I believe even more than the DNR is the most important control to bring in a week signals on the rig without the expensive Mu Tuners,) click 26:11 Also, the “VRF Steps” are described at 35:11. There are more “steps” on the lower bands due to a higher natural amount of QRN. The “more steps” are from 160-30m To help the user mitigate atmospheric noise coming into the front end of the FTDX 5000. DNR Introduced at 30:24 to find out how incredible it is on the FTDX 5000. To see The combination and power using the a combination of Width, VRF and DNR DSP functions of the FTDX 5000 to pull in weak signals, I move to the noisy 75/80 m band. Click 51:09 to hear how well using A combination of all of these DSP functions together and how much better the signal sounds when you engage them For a “Used Buyer” looking to buy an FTDX 5000, I have some very helpful information that can save you a lot of money. That segment starts at 35:13 For the built in “Rotator Control” on the FTDX 5000, click 39:49. For the FH-2 Remote Control and what you can do with it on the FTDX 5000, click: 40:15 For “Dual Receive” directions, on how You can use two antennas to receive with and listen to both of them at the same time to try to pull in a weak signal, which is a VERY POWERFUL TOOL on the FTDX 5000, click 41:55 For the “RX Antenna” capabilities and instructions about it, click 43:19 For “IF Shift and Width” DSP functions and I wish propagation was BETTER for this segment because I believe it failed to really show how effective it really is together, click 44:02. Sorry for the camera issues here in the segment. Remember, I do every show live… Sometimes mistakes are made. They aren’t intentional. And again, propagation was terrible at the time of this segment being done. The IF Shift and Width are important and POWERFUL DSP functions for the FTDX 5000. The “Adjustable Receive Audio Filter” function is shown at 55:19 For Parametric TX settings, and the ones I use with an XLR microphone and the Heil connecting cable kit (Heil CC-1-XLR-YB with Heil Sound HS-2) click: 56:03 To learn how to adjust the “tuning steps” for the VFO on the FTDX 5000, click: 1:03:24 For “Class A Transmitter” description and settings, click 1:04:23 For “Voice and CW Memory settings” using the FH-2 remote, 1:05:53 For “Split Mode” operation, click 1:07:03. For CW operation, click 1:07:47 To set “Memory Frequencies” So you have a quick button pressed for your favorite frequencies, click 1:12:13 To learn about the “VFO Scanning Feature” of the FTDX 5000, click: 1:13:38 For “Packet Radio Instructions,” click: 1:13:46 For “Digital Mode” instructions for using modes like FT8, JT65 etc click: 1:14:51 For “Transverter” instructions, click 1:15:00. For the optional CW (XF-126CN) filter instructions, click 1:16:07 For detailed Mu Tuner information, click 1:16:22 To control an optional SM 5000 “Station Monitor” display, to maximize what it can do, click: 1:20:12 For my final thoughts on the FTDX 5000 and why I love it so much, click: 1:25:51
