The Nino Schurter Bike Trail 222 is a fascinating route in the Val Lumnezia, Switzerland, offering a variety of experiences for mountain bikers. Length: 36 km Terrain: 14 km paved, 14 km natural surface, 8 km singletrail Altitude difference: 1,600 m uphill and 1,600 m downhill Difficulty: Medium-difficult Signposting: Signposted in one direction only Route The trail begins in the village of Vella, located on a gently sloping terrace at the foot of the Mundaun mountain range. After a short descent through meadows and forests, the trail offers spectacular views of the Val Lumnezia with its sunny slopes and hidden side valleys. Ascent and Suspension Bridges A road section leads to the uphill trail to Tersnaus, the home village of Olympic and world champion Nino Schurter. This section is characterised by numerous sharp bends and a spectacular suspension bridge in the Val da Tersnaus. Attractions Surcasti: A village situated on a moraine, with a wonderful ascent through sunny meadows. Vrin: The last village in Val Lumnezia, known for its modern wooden houses designed by architect Gion A. Caminada. Return The route continues with easy trails and dirt roads to the Davos Munts bathing lake, where it is possible to cool off. The return to Vella is a pleasant descent, with breathtaking views of the Piz Terri. This trail is perfect for those looking for a mountain biking adventure surrounded by nature, with breathtaking scenery and technical challenges. The Nino Schurter Bike Trail 222 is suitable for various types of mountain bike, but is particularly suitable for: Cross-Country (XC) Bikes: Ideal for uphill sections and singletrack sections due to their light weight and agility. Trail Bikes: They offer a good balance between uphill efficiency and the ability to tackle technical descents, perfect for various trail terrains. All-Mountain/Enduro Bikes: If you prefer a more robust bike for tackling more challenging descents and rough terrain, these are a good choice. Recommended Features Suspension: A front fork with at least 120-140 mm of travel and, if possible, a rear suspension for more comfort and control. Tyres: Tyres with good grip to cope with both paved and natural stretches and singletrack. Brakes: Hydraulic disc brakes for effective and safe braking on variable terrain.
