I just started a new job last Monday, which gets me driving the side loaders in Auburn Council! I basically took over Jeremy's position as the substitute for whoever's on holiday or off sick. Managed to score the job really quickly which was sweet and got straight into truck #41 as the regular bloke is off for a little while. Just spent the last week mainly collecting recycling, but also a little bit of garbage and emptied just short of 5500 bins which was awesome... probably the best 5 days ever =] I was going to do something a little more creative for my first day, including the start-up at the yard, going out to the run and doing the first lifts. Turned out I couldn't be stuffed doing that and was too keen to start emptying bins, so I just got this in-cab shot for the special occasion. Did the same camera set-up as the video where Matt's driving the Superior Pak, only that this time we're in a MacDonald Johnston and I'm the operator. Wanted to get on the side loaders for a very long time and now I'm finally driving them! Took this towards the end of the first load as the sun was appearing, just going along a couple of straight roads which were nice and easy. Got through 60-65 bins in this video; had a pretty good round apart from a couple of hiccups at the end :P Also going off the mirrors like a pro haha Still looked out the window for a few pick-ups, but after getting a good feel for this truck and becoming more familiar with the mirror angles, it's now barely necessary to check out the window. You get a view of the monitor and mirrors too so you know I'm actually lifting bins and not dropping them all over the place :D All the side loader fleet is pretty standard apart from a single old MkIV, but otherwise they're all 2008 model GenV/ACCOs, washed daily, kept maintained and beautiful to drive + use as you can imagine. Great crew to work with over in Auburn as well; all team players which finish together each day. I look forward to that alarm beside the bed at 2:30am each morning. Seems like it has been a while where I can't sleep from excitement and look forward to going to work the next day. Every aspect of the job is priceless to me right now, enjoying every moment.
