We left the central lowlands behind us and headed north. Glen Shee was a splendid introduction to the days we had ahead. There was a green interlude in the valley of the Dee, including a police-enforced halt at the gates of Balmoral, and then it was back on the sort of roads we like over the hills. The fog came down before we reached Tomintoul. We were then sent on an extensive diversion.
