Born in Kenya into a family that immigrated to Kenya over a century ago from South Africa but originally from England. His family is credited for bringing pineapples and macadamia nuts to Kenya, crops that remain central to the country’s agricultural landscape. Mike who doubles up as a Reverend also expresses regret for the colonial past that shaped the lives of many Kenyans , and the dark memories of the colonial injustices that marked the British empire's legacy in Kenya.Through his personal journey and heartfelt apology for the wrongdoings and atrocities inflicted by his forefathers to Kenyans in their strive for independence and self rule .
