No serious bass angler goes fishing without a selection of soft stick worms, but as waters get more pressured, and fish get more wary, it’s the little soft plastic details that make big differences. That was the challenge that confronted Jacob Wheeler and the CrushCity team as they developed the Pigstick. “How can I make it better,” Wheeler recalled thinking, noting that simplicity has always been a virtue in this lure style. “It’s hard to reinvent the wheel, but if I can make a bait 20 or 30 percent more efficient or generate more bites or it has a better action, that’s my goal.” Like all of the CrushCIty products, it’s meant to be utilized in multiple ways, but Wheeler said that most of his time with the Pigstick has been spent Texas Rigging, Wacky Rigging or Neko Rigging. Because two of those presentations are typically weightless, it was critical to create an action that started immediately. “That is what generates more bites than the other ones out there on the market,” he explained. While it maintains a standard 5-inch length, Wheeler wanted the Pigstick to be larger and rounder than similar lures. That additional surface area and width makes it easier to cast, easier to skip, and of course, makes the bait fall faster.
