Deepinder Dhaliwal, MD, LAc, and Sabrina Mukhtar, MD, MPH, speak about personalized refractive surgery, including LASIK and ICL. Dr. Deepinder Dhaliwal is a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and serves as Vice Chair for Communications and Wellness and Chief of Refractive Surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UPMC Vision Institute. Dr. Dhaliwal is also the Director of the UPMC Laser Vision Center, the Associate Medical Director of the Campbell Ophthalmic Microbiology Laboratory, and Clinical Co-Director of the Corneal Stem Cell Task Force at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. She then completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah. She became a licensed acupuncturist in 2006 and founded the Center for Integrative Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh to systematically research holistic treatments for eye disease. Her other research interests include corneal regeneration, dry eye disease, ocular microbiology, and pediatric refractive surgery. Dr. Sabrina Mukhtar is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh with a specific interest in refractive surgery, cornea and ocular surface disease. She obtained her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University SOM and completed her residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) where she served as chief resident. She stayed at UPMC to complete her Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship. Apart from a scholarly and clinical focus on dry eye, she routinely performs cataract, corneal and refractive surgery. She currently is the Director of the Dry Eye Center of Excellence at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
