In the disappearing wetlands of Xochimilco, 86-year-old Doña Susana tends to one of the last remaining chinampas – an ancient floating garden system developed by Indigenous communities centuries ago. As the canals dry and the city expands around her, she fights to keep this tradition alive, passing on her knowledge to those willing to learn. Through her story, we witness what is lost when ecological destruction and cultural erasure go hand in hand – and what can still be protected when ancestral wisdom is honored. This film is part of Mother Nature, a 7-part series spotlighting women who are defending land, culture, and community in the face of ecological crisis. Not as victims, but as leaders, creators, and protectors of radical futures.
