RTÉ News reports on the death of renowned Capuchin friar and humanitarian Brother Kevin Crowley, best known as the founder of the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People in Dublin city. Born on 24th February 1935 in Enniskeane, County Cork, Brother Kevin founded the Capuchin Day Centre in 1969. Since its inception, the centre has received universal praise for providing over 1,000 hot meals each day and over 1,500 food parcels each week, as well as clothing and day care facilities, for people who are homeless and in need. In 2018, during his visit to Ireland as part of the World Meeting of Families, Pope Francis visited the centre, met Brother Kevin and other service users, and said that the Capuchins are "especially attuned with the people of God, and indeed with the poor". After 53 years of dedicated service to the Capuchin Day Centre, Brother Kevin retired in 2022. He died on 2nd July 2025 at Mount Desert Nursing Home in Cork, aged 90. Pope Francis had died on Easter Monday, 21st April that year, aged 88. R.I.P. Brother Kevin Crowley (1935-2025)
