Where it all started for me back in the 1960's growing up next to the line from Darlington to Saltburn. The four track section between Stockton and Redcar was a very busy place with steelworks galore, chemical works, oil refineries, manufacturing, towns and leisure facilities for the large workforce. The railways were the main transport for all of these activities. Trenholme Junction was built to recreate the sort of sights I saw when I was eight or nine years old. Its not a accurate scale model of anywhere in particular, but a representation of a time and a place. I make videos of the layout so that if I make to an old age where I can't do anything else but dribble, I'll have something to look back on and die happy. The Peak departs from the tunnel mouth (entrance to the new storage yard) and gently eases its train of Iron Ore onto the main goods lines past the Signal Box and the Steam Engine Shed. Continuing its journey, avoiding the Main Station, passing by the Diesel Shed it heads off towards the steelworks. A four car DMU approaches the Main Station from the southern end of the junction. DMU's (Diesel Multiple Units) were the mainstay of all passenger trains in the early to mid sixties in this area. The DMU stops to unload and load passengers. Setting off, it heads towards the Diesel Shed where it passes another DMU heading in the opposite direction. After departing the Main Station heading south we turn our attention back to the Diesel Shed. A Robinson with a train of oil tankers passes the shed whilst a V2 with a train of sleeping cars heads towards the long incline from the upper level. The V2 descents the long incline and is held at the signal before the four into two junction. Meanwhile, the Robinson carries on its journey passed the Main Station on the goods lines and along to the south end of the Lower East Station, probably to one of the oil refineries. Released from the signal check the V2 starts its journey to the Main Station, its final destination. All the coaches on this train are ex-LNER and are new to the layout. A complimentary rake to the new Mk1 set recently shown in another video. Back to sixties, just watching the trains go by.....
