Drama on The Wizards Express II With 5972 Hogwarts Castle aka Olton Hall 12/7/2014

On a beautiful sunny day I boarded my 4th steam charter of 2014 and it was The Wizards Express II hauled by David Smith's ex GWR hall 5972 Hogwarts Castle aka Olton Hall as she was hauling her farewell railtour before she was withdrawn from service following soon the expiry of her mainline certificate and to be on display at Watford as part of a 2 year loan with Warner Brothers In this program we start the filming at her home at the old steamtown museum at Carnforth were the hall came on to the train after Diesel haulage from Manchester Victoria. But there was drama at Carnforth as coach G that I was allocated on with the ticket was missing from the tour as the coach for the trip was used as braking to get David Smith's newly bought rebuilt bullied pacific 34016 Bodmin to Carnforth from Stafford and the coach missed it the empty stock move from Carnforth to Manchester Vic so at Carnforth the hall brought it out and to my surprised I was very lucky as coach G was put right in front of the train next to premier dining and behind 5972 and her support coach once at Carnforth the stewards asked the passengers who allocated to coach g to head straight down to the front of the train to board the coach i headed for the door window speck as i was the first of few to arrive first. We soon set off from Carnforth bound for York as the hall departed in grand style with west coast driver Ron Smith at the helm. The Hall put in a brilliant performance as she was giving her passengers a brilliant run as this is her last railtour for a while. We halted half way to Hellifield so she can blow her safety valves off as she was losing pressure but we made it to Hellifield safely were she refueled ready for the run up to York. We soon departed for York and once again another brilliant run line siders waved to the train so they can wave there goodbyes to the loco. We were loop just outside Leeds we thought this would allow the local services to past but found out from the tour manager that the pressure was so high that Network rail would not allow steam to continue caz of the fire risk and later on it was discovered 5972 caused a line side fire between Hellifield and Shipley. We soon got to Leeds were the 47 diesel who was at the back train dragged the train backwards to York were just before York station Vintage Trains Scarborough Flyer was parked up at Holgate Sidings and 46233 Duchess of Sutherland was uncoupled the trip she was on had to be diesel hauled on to Scarborough this was also due to the fire risk. We soon arrived into the station and on the return the wizards trip would be diesel hauled back to Manchester so the hall would be left at the National Railway Museum. Our last few shots of 5972 in steam was her entering the national railway museum. This had been a adventure despite the line side fire disaster 5972 Olton Hall ended her current stint on the mainline with a bang but not the way we hope.
