Eddie Van Halen also used “Am” triads (often focused on the top three or four strings) to build a more defined sound. The triad shapes can also be combined with sections of Minor Pentatonic Scale. When mixed with Pentatonic they allow for smooth, efficient movement across the neck - typically used to create a balanced blend of chords & licks.
