Lies, deception or even self-deceit seem universally bad and immoral; but sometimes they may actually be good for you. What if such actions could help heal the body or mental illness? Magician turned neuroscientist, Dr Amir Raz is at the forefront of research exploring the potential of using deception to improve our daily lives. Professor Amir Raz, Canada Research Chair in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, is a leader in unlocking the brain substrates of attention and consciousness. Dr Raz is Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Psychology; Senior Investigator in the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital; and a member of the Montreal Neurological Institute. He heads both the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at McGill University and the Clinical Neuroscience and Applied Cognition Laboratory at the Institute for Community and Family Psychiatry. ___________________________ For more information visit http://www.tedxmontreal.com This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
