María Cristina Kiehr, soprano Concerto Soave Sances's inclination for ostinato basses, well-documented in his secular compositions, is equally evident in the Motetti a una, due, tre, e quattro voci (1638). This collection opens with the motet "Audite me divini fructus," which celebrates the Most Holy Rosary, a cherished religious emblem for Eleonora Gonzaga. The text of this motet is drawn from Ecclesiasticus 39:17-19, which was recited during the offertory and communion at Mass on the feast of the Most Holy Rosary. In the "Alleluia" section of this motet, Sances ingeniously merges the major and minor variants of the tetrachord. It is noteworthy that this composition showcases one of the most extensive and impressive uses of the descending major tetrachord within a sacred work. Despite its sacred nature, this music evokes a similarly enraptured feeling commonly associated with Eros. Weaver, A. H. (2016).
